What we offer at Sage Midwifery
Prenatal Care
Your prenatal care is typically done in office, but we do offer in home care under special circumstances.
Standard prenatal schedule is every 4
weeks from initial to 28 weeks,
every 2 weeks from 28-36 weeks, and
weekly from 36 to birth.
At 36 weeks we come to your home for your prenatal!
This allows us to be familiar with where we are going, and to see your space prior to labor.
Starting in your first trimester, your midwife takes the time necessary at each appointment to ensure you will receive the support and education you need to make informed decisions.
Our primary goal is always for each woman to feel safe and empowered throughout her care with us.
We perform all routine labs, and clinical assessments from the comfort of our office.
We usually allow an hour per each appointment to give us ample
time for discussion and questions.
Labor & Delivery
Your midwives will come to your home, bring all of the necessary supplies including emergency medications, Oxygen, and an inflatable birth pool available to rent from your midwife should you desire it. You have the freedom to move about your home, labor in privacy and peace to allow your body and mind to relax and go fully into “labor land” as we midwives call it.
Your midwives are as present and hands on as you desire, or give
you as much space as you want!
We are there to support, inform, encourage and help you feel empowered in your decision making.
You have access to your midwife from the onset of labor, and your
midwife will come to your home in active labor or earlier, if you’re needing additional support!
We use intermittent fetal auscultation during your labor, a proven method for accurate and safe fetal monitoring.
We offer VBAC and Breech on a case by case basis. We will discuss with you in depth the risks and benefits of each and decide together if you are a good candidate.
Postpartum Support
Your midwives will stay at your home anywhere from 3-4 hours on
average after birth, or longer if necessary or desired.
A benefit of having a homebirth is that you don’t have someone checking on you and your baby every hour after birth for two days, interfering with your rest and recovery!
You will get a follow up check in at 24 hours, and a home visit 48-72 hours after birth.
This visit includes a vitals check on you and your baby, a routine Newborn Screening, a Congenital Heart Defect screen for baby,
newborn weight and lactation follow-up. We discuss all your postpartum questions, and allow as much time as you need!
Standard care is a 2 week post partum visit, and a 6 week postpartum
visit! However, we know that giving birth is not a standard experience for each woman. If you require or need additional post partum care, your midwife will meet that need. To ensure that you receive the best possible care for you and your newborn baby, your midwife will remain in close contact with you after your birth to provide support, physical exams, assist with breastfeeding, and answer any questions you may have. We will refer you to appropriate providers if you need additional care outside of our scope!
Doula Services
Midwife Emily offers a limited number of doula clients per year! If you are interested in the personalized care and knowledge a midwife offers, but are not able to have a homebirth for clinical reasons, please reach out for a consultation.
Sage Community
We have recently launched a Sage moms community page where you can connect with other DFW moms. We plan events and meet ups as well to foster community and connection with like-minded moms!
